Being left just means the government has more control over the economy which is the case. Yurop is becoming more left because the government keeps making more and more excuses to control the economy. Obviously it's for their own sake and it's never going to become a commie's paradise (at least not for true communists).
Burgerland is a slightly different case in that the government wants to control the economy but for the sake of corporations instead of for themselves.

Mainly this. But also communist countries are just empirically less comfy than capitalist countries. Communism sure looks good on paper, and it'd probably be functional with a sufficiently small group of sufficiently selfless people, but most humans don't like to live in a communist system. Most people barely care about their neighbors, let alone society at large.
If Capitalism just had a stronger social safety net floor, there'd be far fewer problems. That's why they say UBI is a bandaid for Capitalism.
